Some stone is more porous than others. Over time soil accumulates that regular cleaning can’t reach. This process pulls the soil from the stone and can be removed. A neutral pH detergent is recommended for normal cleaning.
Maintenance polishing removes slight scratches and that smudgy look, cloudy calcium deposits. In doing this periodically your stone remains lovely without great expense.
Mechanical resurfacing is necessary when the maintenance polishing no longer is sufficient in restoring the stone, scratches are visible, wear patterns show etc. Once the damage is removed the stone is polished and sealed and the cycle begins again.
Holes, cracks, gouges are addressed with a polyester epoxy tinted to the general hue of the stone. Regrouting of marble floors is available when cleaning fails.
A variety of protective penetrating sealers are available. Many are user friendly enough that homeowners can apply. Applying sealer helps the stone resist absorbing soil with the wash water keeping the stone cleaner longer. This service is available.
Matte finishes are mostly found on more porous stones such as limestone, sandstone, and coquina. In special cases, high gloss finishes can be altered to a matt finish.
